I really wanted to start a Szajda family tradition that came from fond memories of the Freer Family Christmas traditions. We used to always make gingerbread houses this time of year and I loved doing it. We'd get all messy and eat our way through the decorating. It makes me smile every time I think of it. I didn't want to start it last year because Ty still seemed too small, but he was definitely excited and ready when I told him about our plans for this year. We waited until Daddy was home from school to start the decorating (and help with the logistics of building a house!).

Tyler helping Daddy glue the walls together.

We tried to contain Matty to the highchair because we knew that otherwise there'd be no house in the end! He was happy hanging out in the chair getting fed all sorts of yummies that don't normally land on his tray!

Tyler's silly smile when he's annoyed that Mommy is making him stop and pose for a picture!

He was allowed to decorate any way he wanted. It was fun watching what he chose and how he went about it.

But, honestly he did so much more eating than decorating. He kept asking "Mommy what else can I have to eat?" Adam and I had to laugh because we were doing more decorating and he was doing more eating. What did I expect from a three-year-old who just woke up from his nap and has candy sitting all around him?!

Matty enjoyed all the icing. Clearly, chocolate was the flavor of choice!

The final masterpiece from both sides. I think we all did a great job, especially for our first one!

There were huge quantities of sugar consumed, hardly any dinner, and a whole lot of fun had by all! I have a feeling we'll be doing this again next year.
